We at Fractal 5 have been working hard at getting our app ready, and last week while at Slush in Finland we pushed it out to the world. You can check it out at https://break.is - feel free to share it with as many as you like.
A few words about what we are trying to accomplish. As Covid hit us last year and our social lives got pretty much pulled away from us overnight, my co-founder (Björgvin Guðmundsson) and I started wondering what might be the best way to keep in touch with our social circles, especially beyond the usual suspects we had in Messenger and Snapchat groups.
This led us down an interesting path of development, and we quickly realized how our model of keeping in touch with people is simple on the surface, but utterly hard to replicate online. We persisted, and felt that we needed to build something that was more flexible than just a simple group chat but also something that wasn’t trying to be yet another media publishing feed, which felt too impersonal and unidirectional.
This is where Break was born, where we want to help people live a better social life, just as if they went to the water cooler at their office or their local coffee shop, and could meet old friends, bump into new people and simply have a nice moment which shouldn’t feel forced or overly planned.
I’ll leave this update at that, if you get a chance to try the app we welcome any and all feedback (you can either email me directly at gummi@fractal5.com or take a screenshot in the app which creates a feedback/bug report). Our plans are much more grandiose but that’s material for a future update.
