Recently we pushed a very exciting update to our Break app, addressing the most common feedback we heard from our users and boy, are we excited to tell you about it!
Shared Groups
The idea behind Break and its initial groups was that user should be able to define their own audiences, without necessarily everyone in the group knowing who’s in it. This mirrors somewhat the real-life scenario of going to a coffee shop and bumping into people or standing up from your desk to run into some co-workers, without knowing ahead of time who was going to be there.
This works really well for certain scenarios, but for people you interact a lot with having the ability to set up the group and then “share” it makes it significantly easier for everyone involved to participate in future breaks. What this means is that you can set up the group and then everyone in the group automatically have access to the group and can manage it.
Easier Group Creation
Another thing we heard a lot of feedback from users about was that it was hard to create groups since you had to search for every individual separately and then add them. This is how group creation works in every social app, but we wanted to do better. That’s how we came up with an innovative way to select users from a grid of faces, which makes it easy to scan your list of friends and select the ones you want in a group. You can even do it while creating a break, simplifying even further the process of deciding whom you want to socialize with.
While creating a group, you can even start with an existing group and then add or remove people as you please, mimicking even further how you would think about who you want to interact with in real life.
Break Suggestions
Finally, as you start using Break, it might be beneficial to have a nudge to help you decide what kind of break to share and with whom. This is where break suggestions come in. On the app’s home screen, where you see all the breaks that are going on, the app will now suggest breaks to you, turning taking a break into a single tap to share a break with your friends. As you use the app more, these suggestions will improve, reducing even further the mental load of meeting your friends through the Break app.
If you have the app you should have received this update already, but if not you can head to https://break.is and download the app to try it out!
